Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin's son Udhayanidhi started his film production house Red Giant Movies in 2008 withi his first film 'Kuruvi' starring Vijay and Trisha in the lead roles. He subsequently produced films with leading Tamil stars such as Surya's 'Aadhavan' and '7 aam Arivu', Kamal Haasan's 'Manmadhan Ambu' and his own super hit debut movie as a hero 'Oru Kal Oru Kannadi'.
Red Giant Movies is now the biggest distritbution company that acquires the majority of films big and small that hit the screens every week. Udhayanidhi Stalin, who was elected MLA in the 2021 assembly elections and recently took charge as the Youth Welfare and Sports Development minister. He immediately announced that he would no longer act in cinema and that Maari Selvaraj's 'Mamannan' costarring Keerthy Suresh and Fahadh Faasil would be his last film. He opted out of 'RKFI 54' produced by Kamal Haasan which he committed earlier.
Udhay hinted that he would continue to produce and distribute films through his Red Giant Movies company. However there has been a dramatic change as new posters from Red Giant Movies announcing the acquiring of a few areas of Vijay's 'Varisu' does not have his name on them. Earlier all the movies the production house was involved would carry Red Giant Movies Udhayanidhi Stalin presents but now there is only the production name on the posters indicating that the minister has distanced himself from it to avoid unecessary controversies.
Hence in all the upcoming movies to be distritubed and produced by the company namely Kovai Sarala's 'Sembi', Ajith's 'Thunivu', Thalapathy Vijay's 'Varisu' (4 Areas), Vetrimaaran's 'Viduthalai', Mani Ratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' and Kamal Haasan's 'KH 234' will only have the title as Red Giant Movies presents. Political anaylsts feel that its a good move by Udhay to fully focus on serving the people in his new role as a minister.
