The recent death by suicide of young Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput has given rise to voices against nepotism and favoritism in the film industries that allegedly prevent outsiders from surviving. Similar to Sushant actor Uday Kiran became a sensational star in Telugu cinema in early 2000s with a string of hits including 'Chithram', 'Nuvvu Nenu', 'Manasantha Nuvve'.
Later Uday was touted as the next big thing in Telugu cinema and even got engaged to megastar Chiranjeevi's daughter Sushmitha in 2003 but it was broken later. After that he did not get any chances in Telugu cinema and tried to shift base to Tamil with his very first film 'Poi' carrying the significance of being the 100th film of legendary director K. Balachander. Unfortunately, it bombed at the box office and his subsequent films 'Vambu Sandai'and Kalaigniar's 'Penn Singam' both flopped.
Uday Kiran pinned all hopes on a film 'Chitram Cheppina Katha' directed by Mohan Alrk and costarring Madalasa Sharma. its subject was about a man searching his past secrets to change his present life. Unfortunately, Uday Kiran died due to suicide on 5th January 2014 aged 33 leaving behind his wife of two years Vishistha. The film never saw the light of day after that.
It was said that financial crisis was behind Uday's extreme step while others said that four powerful families in the Telugu industry did not let him find his footing again. However it was the dream of Uday to release his last film which he hoped would change his fortunes but never lived to see it happen.
Now after Sushant Singh Rajput's death OTT platforms are keen to release his last film 'Dil Bechara' and similarly have also shown interest in Uday Kiran's ' 'Chitram Cheppina Katha'. If all goes well the unfortunate hero's last wish may be fulfilled soon and his fans could get to see him in his last film as well.
