Recently, one of Uber’s self-driving automated car ended up crashing a pedestrian Elaine Herzberg who was walking outside the lines of the crosswalk. Now, the video of the self-driving car’s crash is out which has created a debate if the car should have stopped beforehand.
It is to be noted that this is the first death related to the testing of automatic vehicle with a human backup driver. One coud also discern from the video that the backup driver is looking down until the crash happens before she finally sees the walking pedestrian and appears shocked.
There have been many reactions to the video as to how Uber’s system must have detected the person, and failing to do so it shows the company’s automated system to be a failure. Here’s the footage:
