Two men from Uttar Pradesh committed suicide on Monday after they feared that they were infected with the novel coronavirus.
One of the men was reportedly a resident of the Pilkhua district in Hapur. He killed himself by slitting the veins in his wrist and neck. He left behind a suicide note that mentioned that he suspected he had been infected with coronavirus. The other man was from Bareilly's Deoria district and he committed suicide by jumping in front of a goods train. He had told a railway employee that he suspected a coronavirus infection. Last week, a 35-year-old suspected coronavirus patient killed himself by jumping off the seventh floor of the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
In an attempt to slow the spread of the virus across the country, PM Narendra Modi imposed a nationwide lockdown that came into effect on March 25 at 12.00 am and will be enforced for 21 days. 642 cases and 11 deaths have been reported in the country so far, of which 35 cases have been recorded in Uttar Pradesh alone.
