The rape of two minor tribal girls from the Araku Valley in Andhra Pradesh has come to light only after their relatives and fellow villagers staged a dharna at a local police station on Wednesday. The sexual assault took place on Monday.
As per media reports, the victims were picked up by four youths when they were out to attend a nature's call. The youths told the girls that they would be taken to the Araku festival in a four-wheeler. Instead of going on the actual route, the culprits took a diversion, causing alarm in the girls.
The youths reportedly took the girls to a hillock and raped them. One of the girls could be saved by passersby, who took her on a bike to safety. The other girl was not spotted by the motorists and thus couldn't be saved.
AIDWA activists are helping out the victims and their relatives to fight for justice.
