Indian was the biggest blockbuster movie of 1996, and Kamal Haasan had won the national award for his performance in the movie as well. Shankar and Sujatha had delivered a socially relevant entertainer with the story of an old vigilante freedom fighter fighting against corruption.

23 years later, Shankar and Kamal had reunited and announced the sequel to the movie, and Indian 2 was launched in January amidst huge expectations, and the movie produced by Lyca productions was announced to have music scored by Anirudh. However the movie had met with unexpected delays.

Now it has been said that all the issues have been resolved and that Indian 2 will begin shooting from August. The latest speculation making rounds is that actresses Aishwarya Rajesh and Priya Bhavani Shankar might be roped in to play key roles in Indian 2. It must be noted that initially Indian 2 was announced with Kajal Aggarwal as the heroine and now it has to be seen if Kajal will still be a part of Indian 2.
