On Monday, Keralites woke up to the heartbreaking news of a young woman named Vismaya who ended her life after being subjected to extreme cruelty from her inlaws and husband over inadequate dowry. While the tragic news has created public outrage, two more similar cases are reported in Kerala.
A young woman has been found dead at the residence of her husband in Alappuzha. The deceased identified as Suchithra was just 19-years-old. According to reports, Suchithra was found hanging inside the bedroom at around 9 am on Tuesday. During the incident, only her mother-in-law was present at the house. When her mother-in-law knocked on the door, Suchithra did not respond. Soon, the neighbours reached the home and forcefully opened the door. She was found hanging inside the room. Though her in-laws rushed her to a hospital nearby, her life could not be saved. Police said they were yet to ascertain the cause of death. Suchithra and Vishnu a soldier, entered wedlock on March 21 this year. After the wedding, Vishnu moved to his workplace in Uttarakhand while Suchithra stayed with her inlaws. The police are investigating the reason for her death.
In yet another incident, Archana, 24, died after she was found ablaze at her rented house at Venganoor. Archana’s family raised murder charges against her husband Suresh, who has been detained when he tried to flee on seeing the police. Archana and Suresh got married a year ago. Archana's mother claimed Suresh's family had been troubling them for money and a share of the property.
