Two Countries Review

As always Dileep has handled another comic entertainer with elan. His impeccable comic timings and those mannerisms that make comedy work sits easy on his shoulders and 'Two Countries' rests pretty on them. Interestingly, he has the help of other actors of equal caliber like Suraaj Venjaramoodu, Mamta and Aju Varghese working out combination sequences successfully. All this combines to make the movie a complete no-brainier laugh riot in the good old fashion.

 

In spite of the wafer thin plot and the old fashioned typical storytelling, 'Two Countries' manages to bring out some genuine laughs. This is the kind of movie that takes the mind off weighty thoughts and provides some clean entertainment at the expense of others. 

 

Of course there are cliches galore, mindless blabbering, gabbing, innane counter dialogues, dialogues that reek of prejudices that our society still harbours, and over the top characterization. But all said, the scribes have given amble space for situational humour to work themselves out, especially in those sequences involving the treasure hunting good for nothing hero and the alcoholic wife. Some of those combination sequences of Aju - Dileep, Suraaj - Mukesh are really gleeful.

 

Srinda and Mamta have done their share in the comic department. The movie offers no surprises. It unabashedly plies on laughs upon laugh. At times, there is the feel of a skit unraveling, but Dileep's presence takes care of this. The storyline is basically about a good for nothing lazy fellow, who wants to lead a rich life without working for it. In between the fraudulent money making deeds of the hero, he happens to marry his childhood friend Laya, who settled in Canada a long while ago. Laya's alcoholism and how they strive for cordial relationship without first killing each other is basically what the movie is all about

 

With the Dileep - Mamta combination, one gets reminded of their hit movie 'My Boss'. In terms of plot, 'Two Countries' is much more cheesier and thinner. But they have recreated that chemistry in the movie. The cinematography is very colourful and lively and so is the music. All the cast including the lead pair and others including Suraaj, Mukesh, Lena, Isha Talwar's cameo performance, Srinda have all done well. Shafi has made the movie in his typical time and it has come out well. If you are not too worried about a movie having a good plot, this no-brainer is a sure pick.
