Biographical drama has become a successful genre in Bollywood in last few years. With success of films like 'Gunjan Saxena' and 'Shershah', filmmaker Karan Johar has decided that he'll producce one biopic about a national hero every for release in Independence Day. Currently he's rumored to be backing a biopic on Usha Mehta. Her nephew Ketan Mehta is keen on directing the project.
Reports suggest that casting for the lead role is in final phase and makers have shortlisted two actresses for the part. A source close to development told Pinkvilla, "Ketan has simultaneously begun pre-production, and aims to kick off the film by late 2021. He has narrowed down his choices for the lead to Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar. Given the actors’ busy date diaries after the second lockdown, the casting will be locked by November.”
Usha Mehta played a key role in establishing Congress Radio during Quit India movement. It was an underground radio channel which propagated views of Gandhi ji about peaceful rebellion.
