The producer of a popular television show has been sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for raping a 31-year-old junior artiste. Mukesh Mishra, aged 33, was booked under IPC section 376 (rape) and another section on criminal intimidation.
The case had been heard for many years. It was in December 2012 that it all began. Upon a call from the criminal's studio, the unnamed victim came to Powai in Mumbai seeking a job in the production unit of the serial 'Veera' (Hindi). While Mishra asked her to wait for a bus, it was a bait. As the woman was waiting for the bus, the producer himself came on a bike and picked her up, saying that the bus would be delayed.
The predator took the victim to a studio, asked her to go into a room and raped her. At the time of the incident, the studio was deserted, with only a sweeper spotted. When the rape victim protested, the cash-rich producer allegedly threatened her with dire consequences, including killing her daughter, if she complained to the police.
