Sridevi may have left for the heavenly abode but she would continue to live in the hearts of millions of movie lovers through the characters she has portrayed in innumerable films. For our Tuesday trivia we have chosen to provide tidbits about the legendary actress pertaining to Tamil cinema as a tribute.
Sridevi made her acting debut in Tamil in the movie 'Thunaivan' in which she played Lord Muruga and later she also reprised the role in 'Thiruvilaiyadal' starring Sivaji and Savithri and Kumara Sambavam starring Gemini Ganesan and Padmini.
Sridevi again played Lord Muruga in 'Aadhi Parashakthi' and 'Agathiyar' making it five films as the Tamil god and also playing a boy.
Sridevi after playing a child artiste with Sivaji, Jaishankar and Sivakumar in various films in later years has also played their lovers.
It was widely reported at the time that Sivaji was reluctant to act as her pair but it was Sridevi's dream to star opposite the legend and did so in 'Vishwaroopam' and 'Santhippu' while she has costarred with him in a number of films.
Sridevi has done a record number of 27 films with Kamal Haasan and the pair have been considered as one of the most popular ever in Tamil cinema.
With Rajini, Sridevi has starred in 13 Tamil films and 9 Hindi films and the two are such good friends that the late actress even took on a week of fasting prayers when the superstar took ill in 2011.
Sridevi has starred in 'Nam Naadu' as a child artiste with MGR and in films like 'Aathi Parasakthi' and 'Thirumangalyam' she shared screenspace with former chief minister J. Jayalalitha.
Sridevi was on the verge of starring as the heroine opposite K.Bhagyaraj in 'En Rathathin Rathame' which is the remake of her Hindi super hit 'Mr.India' but couldnt do the film due to date clashes. The duo who were colleagues since '16 Vayadhinile' however worked as director and heroine in 'Aakhri Raasta ' starring Amitabh Bachan.
Sridevi is one of the very few leading ladies who has costarred with Sivaji-MGR, Rajini-Kamal and Vijay-Ajith.
Starting from 1976 'Moondru Mudichi' to 'Naan Adimai Illai' in 1986 which was her last Tamil film in that era, Sridevi alternated between a Rajini film and a Kamal film and did only one or two projects with others.
Sridevi requested Thala Ajith to make a cameo in her 2012 'English Vinglish' Tamil version for which the mass hero obliged without any renumeration due to the respect he had for her.
The 'Puli' team went to great lengths to get Sridevi to star as a queen in the 2015 film in which she costarred with Vijay and Shruti Haasan, the daughter of her most frequent costar.
There was a buzz that Kamal and Sridevi would reunite for a film in 2016-2017 but unfortunately that did not materialize.
