The Telangana Police have revealed that Artificial Intelligence-based technology has been deployed to identify those not wearing face masks in public places. It's mandatory to use face masks in the State to keep Covid-19 at bay.
"We are using AI-based Face Mask Violation Enforcement for the purpose. Leveraging Computer Vision and Deep Learning Technique being implemented on surveillance of CCTVs across the cities. This is the first of its kind in India. The technology will be enabled shortly across the three Commissionerates in the State," the DGP of Telangana said.
An IANS report says that the police in the districts are imposing fines of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 on the violators.
Privacy warriors are likely to take recourse to legal options against the deployment of AI for the purpose. On its part, the Government will invoke relevant legal provisions to justify the police's moves.
