"I am proud to announce that the United States will donate ventilators to our friends in India. We stand with India and Narendra Modi during this pandemic. We are also cooperating on vaccine development. Together we will beat the invisible enemy!" US President Donald Trump tweeted hours ago. Soon after the gesture, which the Indian side has welcomed, fresh information has been heard on this front.
As per a Hindustan Times report, America is going to donate 200 mobile ventilators soon. This is likely just the first tranche. "Each of these mobile ventilators is estimated to cost Rs 9.6 lakh without accounting for the transportation costs. In all, the ventilators will cost about Rs 192 million plus freight charges," the report adds.
Not many want to take Trump's gesture at face value. "At 80,000+ cases just about 400 people are on ventilators in India. This is again a mystery. Mahindra stopped production, because there is no demand, and Trump is earning points by sending his excess ventilators. LOL. Khush rehne do," tweets out @GabbarSingh.
