Finally, the vaccine trials for COVID-19 have started in Hyderabad. COVAXIN trials began on July 20 at Nizam’s Institue of Medical Sciences after being delayed by almost a week. The probable vaccine dosage has been given to two volunteers at NIMS.
As per a senior doctor from NIMS, both the volunteers are made and are kept under observation. However, both of them are healthy and are responding well.
NIMS is one of the 12 institutions where nearly 375 candidates would be administered the first dose of the vaccine as a part of the human trials. The hospital management has revealed that many people have shown interest in knowing more about the vaccine and they have received hundreds of messages and calls to become a part of the trials.
But not many know that the candidates would be shortlisted, tested for fitness and COVID-19 antibodies at a Central lab after which the candidates would be finalised. NIMS hopes to conduct the trials on about 60 candidates.
The truth is that this news gives hope to people who have been waiting for a miracle to happen in these touch times. Let us hope that the efforts of so many scientists and experts succeed.
