Tarika Bhanu a transgender girl coming from an impoverished background completed her plus one studies and apparently came out of her house due to various issues.  Grace Banu a transgender activist rescued Tarika and supported her surgical procedures.  The young girl nursed ambitions for the medical profession and wanted to pursue studies but she was denied a seat for plus two by an Ambattur government girls school inspite of a Supreme Court order to give the third gender free education.

According to Grace Banu, an agitation was held inside the school premises and the establishment later relented and provided Tarika a seat  making her the first transgender pure science student in India.  Having scored 537 marks in plus two she had applied for Siddha Medical College but has been denied a seat citing that she needed 50 percent marks.  Grace and Tarka have filed a case in the court stating that being a member of the third gender the girl should be awarded a seat on a special quota and is awaiting judgement.
