A major accident on the sets of 'Indian 2' has claimed three lives besides leaving several others injured, on Wednesday night. The incident happened at around 9.30 pm, at EVP Studios in Chennai.
A heavy light that was placed on a 150 feet crane crashed onto a tent, crushing to death the victims. Director Shankar's personal assistant Madhu (29), assistant director Krishna (34) and Chandran (60) belonging to the catering department are the deceased. It is learned that a high-octane action sequence was being shot at the time of the tragedy. The fight involved the use of heavy lighting equipment mounted on the ill-fated crane. A few junior artists, too, may have been injured.
As per reports, Kamal Haasan, Shankar, Kajal Aggarwal and costume designer Amrutha Ram were lucky to escape the accident. They were just a few seconds away from the "providential escape". Many false reports said that the '2.0' director had suffered a severe leg injury. There is no truth in those reports.
Kamal made all arrangements for the injured to be immediately rushed to the nearby Savitha hospital, where they have been undergoing treatment.
"No words could ease what we are going through. We are extremely saddened by the unfortunate incident. We have lost three of our most hardworking technicians. Our deepest condolences to their family members," Lyca Productions has said in a statement.
