Recently, the Hyderabad traffic police offered a one-time settlement for individuals whose e-Challans are pending. An estimated 1.7 crore pending e-Challans have been left unpaid.
The news is that, the discount offer is doing wonders in clearing the backlog of pending Challans. As per the latest reports, as many as 1.3 crore pending e-Challans have been cleared by vehicle users since March 1.
Collections to the tune of Rs 130 Cr have been raised, thanks to the incentive the violators had in terms of deep discounts.
As per the old rates, the violators were supposed to pay as much as Rs 600 Cr. Amidst complaints that only two-wheelers have been targeted for violations for the most part, the one-time settlement offer came as a blessing. 80% of those who have availed of the scheme hail from Rachakonda, Hyderabad and Cyberabad.
The offer will remain in force till March 31 in the entire state of Telangana. "Per minute, as many as 1000 challans have been disposed of," the traffic department said.
The one-time settlement offer is a disincentive for those individuals who paid the fines promptly.
