Veeralakshmi, president of Tamizhar Viduthalai Padai (TVP), has asked the Govt. of Tamil Nadu in general and Chennai Police in particular to trace and punish the killers of Police Inspector Periyapandian within 15 days’ time.
Inspector Periyapandian, who had been to Rajasthan as part of a special police team to nab a gang of criminals, was shot dead by the criminals yesterday morning. His body, which was flown in from Jaipur this morning, has been kept at the Chennai Airport where his colleagues, friends and relative and members of the public are paying homage to him, praising his supreme sacrifice.
Veeralakshmi has said that she would launch a State-wide agitation unless the killers of Periyapandian were traced and punished within the next fortnight. She has issued a video in this regard on social networking sites which has gone viral now.
“Tamils remain unsafe wherever they go: if they venture out into the seas, they are attacked by Lankan Navy, if they go to Andhra to earn a living, they are shot dead or jailed by Andhra Pradesh Policemen. Now we have a top cop getting killed by criminals in Rajasthan while he was on duty. We can no more be patient; unless the killers are caught and punished within the next 15 days, we would be launching a State-wide protest against those from Rajasthan,” she said in the video.
