Owing to the sudden spike in COVID-19 cases and the spread of Omicron variant, the makers of Tovino Thomas' much-awaited movie 'Naaradhan' have decided to postpone the release. Produced by Aashiq Abu, Rima Kallingal, and Santosh T Kuruvilla under the banner of OPM Cinemas, the film was originally slated for a theatrical release on January 27, 2022. In a statement, OPM Cinemas said: “Due to the surge in the rise of COVID-19 infections and complications caused by the Omicron variant, the release schedule of Naradan has been postponed. Sorry for the inconvenience.”
Touted as a thriller, Naaradhan narrates the story which revolves around new-age media in modern India. ‘Naaradhan’ brings together Tovino Thomas and Anna Ben in the lead roles. The movie has a stellar cast including Sharafudheen, Indrans, Jaffer Idukki, Vijayaraghavan, Joy Mathew, Renji Panicker, and Deepan Sivaraman. Coming to the technicalities, the story, script, and dialogues of the movie are penned by Unni R. As the movie marks the reunion of director Aashiq Abu and actor Tovino Thomas after 'Mayanadhi', expectations around Naaradhan are sky-high.
Naaradhan is the second Malayalam movie that opted to postpone the release date. A few days back, the release of Dulquer Salmaan starring ‘Salute’ directed by Roshan Andrrews also postponed due to the alarming increase in COVID-19 cases.
