As we had reported earlier, actor Tovino Thomas and Aashiq Abu are teaming up again for a horror thriller titled 'Neelavelicham'. The team kickstarted the shoot with a customary pooja in Pinarayi, Kannur on Monday. The switch-on function was attended by Tovino Thomas, Rima Kallingal, Aashiq Abu and the rest of the cast. In the ceremony, most of them were dressed in white and off-white attires. Sharing a glimpse from the ceremony, Tovino wrote, “‘Neelavelicham’ 'നീലവെളിച്ചം'". Check out the pictures here.

The upcoming film, which is an adaptation of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer’s short story ‘Neelavelicham’, was initially announced with Prithviraj and Kunchacko Boban in the lead roles. However, due to the delay caused to the pandemic and date clashes, both the actor had to turn down the offer. As per the new finalized cast list, Tovino is replacing Prithviraj and Roshan Matthew is replacing Kunchacko Boban in the upcoming venture.

Film producer Santosh T Kuruvilla, who had earlier backed films such as ‘Da Thadiya’, ‘Maheshinte Prathikaaram’, ‘Maayanadhi’, had earlier revealed that the upcoming venture is based on the 1964 horror film ‘Bhargavi Nilayam’, which was a film adaptation of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer’s short story ‘Neelavelicham’. The iconic film ‘Bhargavi Nilayam’ is the first horror film made in Malayalam. As nearly six decades later the same short story is getting a silver screen adaptation, all eyes are on the project. Also, it is for the first time Aashiq Abu is helming a horror subject. Coming to the technicalities, the movie's cinematography is by Girish Gangadharan while Saiju Sreedharan is the editor. Music is by Bijibal.
