What happened to Upendra - Real and super star of Kannada cinema. The major portions of this film are borrowed from his films and contents are worn out with an exception to last twenty minutes. Upendra's A, Upendra, Hindi blockbuster `Sholay' are packed in this routine style of narration. Over all it is poorly handled and at many places it looks silly. Ravishanker playing Gabbar Singh and Achyuth Kumar in Sanjeevkumar role tucked in `Topiwala' are so inept. The film has the story and screenplay of Upendra, dialogues and direction from Srini debutant to big screen (he has directed `Simply Kail-awesome) suffers badly in the routine things fed. The self boasting of Upendra image was unwanted. Beginning of the film is the aping of Shanker Nag style with background voice mimicry on the Swiss money of India. Upendra and his team liberally added `zeroes' and again and again repeating that is not possible to get back black money in Swiss Bank tortures the brain. What is the character of Upendra is again told in innumerable films. He is Basak in the film. He is closely watched by cop Ramanayana Raghu (Rangayana Raghu). It is a `Kalla Police' screenplay and weird person (Sudhakar) on top of the tower is the wanted man for Upendra. What is so special in this ever shouting Sudhakar? He has the main code that Upendra and team trace. After three codes derived from three different places `Stupid Indian Tax' cut in to three pieces on one rupee currency note - the need is the code what the politicians have to release the black money from the Swiss Bank. What happens after that? It is so ridiculous. The man on top assembles politicians and that reveals - 2G, De-notification, Mining, and Stamp Paper. When some of the politicians come and declare the code the television crew captures them to make them public. Is that enough for Upendra to get the entire money of Indians in the Swizz Bank? The last hurdle is the Swizz Bank officials asking for the final code. Another high drama crops up on the wide field. It is entry of Gabbar Singh with Mr India (a beggar played by Biradar) who is having the last code with him. The last code is `Voter' - the Gabbar Singh team wins the race. The struggle of Basak and team go in vain. The final onslaught of the film is pointed towards the common man. The actual `Topi' is for public. He has to change from `Henda and Hana (liquor and Money) for better society emphasizes `Topiwala'. The film has also attack on `Caste and Language'! Upendra looks like the typical Telugu hero. His costume does not suit the Kannada culture and boundary. For the objectionable lines - `CM ge Situ Hodadu life Alle Settle Agbitte' there is no justification to bring such controversial lines. The powerful dialogues are also not found. It is in the monotonous style of Upendra films. Jackie Bhavana (Mallu Heroine) has nothing much to do. She is an agent of CBI in the film but works for Gabbar Singh the top criminal in the film. Maithreyi has nothing to boast in her role. The film showcase the CBI clad using the pistol and attacking like army men. The logic at several places goes missing. V Harikrishna reminds the tunes of `Vishnuvardhana' Kannada film of Sudeep. The title song of that Sudeep film and this Upendra cinema are similar in Sounding. Newcomer Srisha in his first movie as cameraman has given a good view of the developments on screen. His angles - close, mid, wide and top angles are top class. But not the film `Topiwala'! Score - 5/10
