Top five of the week

With another two week to Onam festival, the theatres in the state are registering good collections all over, with the arrival of some good entertainers. The top five of the week have definitely some surprises.

1. ‘Veruthe Oru Bharya’ - Within two weeks from its release, this Jayaram movie has slowly managed to grab the top position. The movie seems to have stricken a chord with the families and the lady viewers with its realistic content. ‘Veruthe Oru Bharya’ is the first major success for Pyramid Saimira - the media giant, which started to distribute films in Malayalam from this January.

2. ‘Aayudham’ – Suresh Gopi's latest ‘Aayudham’ has taken a lame start and is not expected to make any surprises at the box office. But the movie by Nishad may continue in theatres at least till the arrival of Onam flicks.

3. ‘Maadambi’ - Mohanlal's latest hit 'Maadambi' is in its 50 day. The movie continues to bring in viewers in around 15 release centers, of which 6 are regular shows. The movie has got strong collections in majority of the metro stations.

4. ‘Krishna’ - Allu Arjun's latest ‘Krishna’ couldn't repeat the success story of his previous films like ‘Arya’ and ‘Happy', that were also dubbed in Malayalam. The movie has got greater collections in the northern regions and in some centers the movie's first day collections was in par with that of some of our superstars films. But in the South, the movie got a cold response even after aggressive marketing from its distributor, Khadar Haasan.

5. ‘Kabadi Kabadi’ - Sudheer-Manu's ‘Kabadi Kabadi’ which is in its fourth week, continues in very few release theatres. The movie will, at best, end up as an average earner. The non performance of this reasonably entertaining stuff, poses serious questions to the present crowd pulling capacity of actors in its lead, like Mani and Mukesh.

Apart from the two new releases, 'Aakashagopuram’ and 'S M S’, the other movies in the theatres includes Sidhdharth Anand's ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’, Rajinikanth’s ‘Kuselan’, Vishal's ‘Sathyam’ and Kamal's ‘Minnaminnikkoottam’.
