From 6 pm today, lockdown will be tightened in parts of Theni due to the increasing number of Coronavirus cases. As of June 23, Theni had 153 active cases. The district administration's official announcement says that Periyakulam is already under lockdown and from today, Bodinayakkanur, Theni, Chinnamanur, Cumbum and Gudalur will be under lockdown.

Essential services like fruits, vegetables, grocery shops, mobile markets and petrol bunks, gas, milk, water, pharmacies, hospitals and medical services will be allowed. Besides, banks, state and central government offices, Public Distribution Shops, meat shops, old age homes, Amma canteens, press and media, courts will function.

Autos, taxis and private vehicles can run only for medical emergencies. Cars can be driven with maximum of three persons, autos with two, and two-wheelers can have only one person. Hotels can operate within stipulated timings only for delivery. People must strictly follow safety measures by wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.
