After going through a dry spell for almost 10 days, Chennai’s southern suburbs saw heavy rainfall while the core areas experienced light to moderate rain in the last 24 hours, as a result of a trough that has been formed off the Tamilnadu coast. If it grows stronger, there is a possibility of a cyclone forming.

Chennai’s Meenambakkam recorded 44 mm of rain, while the intensity was less over Nungambakkam as it recorded only 7 mm of rain. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue over Chennai and its adjoining areas in the next 24 hours, after which the intensity will reduce, and a moderate to light rainfall will be observed.

Due to a torrential downpour in the Karaikkal, Delta, and Pudukottai districts, a holiday was announced for schools today in those areas.
