The new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was passed by the union cabinet last Wednesday and the policy had emphasized on focusing on the regional languages of India and mother tongue as the medium of instruction for students up to class 5.

The Human resources and development ministry had tweeted "Three-language formula will continue to be implemented, with greater flexibility, while keeping in mind the Constitutional provisions, aspirations of the people, regions, and the Union, and the need to promote multilingualism as well as promote national unity."

Today, Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi Palanisamy has made a strong statement opposing the three language formula of NEP. Edappadi Palanisamy has said that the central government's New education policy including the three language formula is saddening, and further said that Tamil Nadu government will never allow the three language policy, and will continue to follow only the two language policy. The CM also said that the Tamil Nadu government will act immediately to help if anything happens against the Tamil language or Tamil people.
