TN: 7000 graduates, engineers apply for 549 sweeper posts

In a shocking development in Tamil Nadu, about 7,000 graduates, many of them engineers, have applied for 549 sanitary workers posts in Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation. As per reports, some of them are Post-Graduates.

How should this be seen as? As per analysts, this kind of rush only goes to prove that not enough high-paying and high-skilled jobs are being created in the economy to accommodate the lakhs of engineers and other graduates passing out every year. We have seen such instances a number of times in the past as well, especially in poor States like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

"It's generally true that government jobs are revered in our society. People are ready to do any kind of job if it is a sarkari one. All this shows our lazy nature and lust for secure jobs," says a Facebook user.
