A college student from Tiruvallur killed her mother after she had attempted stopping her from eloping with her alleged boyfriend whom she had met on Facebook.

Devi Priya, an 18-year-old college student started a relationship with 19-year-old Vivek via Facebook. After a few days, the girl had apparently requested the boy to take her to his hometown, which he agreed to, but sent his friends Satish (18) and Vignesh (18) to retrieve her from her place.

When awareness of their plan dawned on Devi Priya's mother Banumathy, she condemned her daughter, but Devi Priya, who was blinded by her infatuation for the teenage boy recklessly stabbed her mother with a knife when she prevented her from eloping with Vivek’s friends. Even though Banumathy was immediately rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.

The villagers of Devi Priya’s town caught her and the two boys before they could make their escape, and handed them over to the police.
