Tiruparangunram Murugan Thirukalyanam: In the presence of Goddess Meenakshi, there is a commotion!

Murugan Ties the Knot at Thiruparankundram Madurai:

The holy town of Madurai witnessed a grand celebration today as Lord Murugan of Thiruparankundram temple tied the knot with his consort, ???????? (Theiyvayanai) in a grand Murugan Thirukalyanam festival. Thousands of devotees thronged the temple to witness this auspicious occasion.

Significance of the Festival:

This elaborate Thirukalyanam festival is part of the Panguni Peruvizha, a 15-day festival celebrated at Thiruparankundram, the first abode of Lord Murugan among his six abodes. The festival commences with the hoisting of the ceremonial flag and culminates with the wedding, which traditionally takes place on the day of Panguni Uthiram (a star constellation). The wedding commemorates the union of Murugan, the victorious warrior god, with Theiyvayanai, daughter of the god king Indra.

Grand festival:

Yesterday, the temple witnessed the grand coronation festival (Pattabhishekam) of Lord Murugan. The deity was adorned with precious stones and presented with a royal scepter and flag amidst chanting of vedic mantras.

Today, the highlight of the festival, the Thirukalyanam, was held in the presence of Goddess Meenakshi and her consort, Lord Sundareswarar, who arrived from the Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple in a specially decorated chariot. The Thirukalyanam, held at the Aarugal Mandapam, saw a large number of women devotees participating in the ‘thali’ (mangalsutra) changing ceremony.

Festivities Continue:

The celebrations continue tomorrow (March 29th) with the spectacular ‘Therottam’ (chariot procession). Lord Murugan and Theiyvayanai will be seated on a decorated chariot, allowing devotees to seek blessings. The festival concludes on March 30th with the ‘Theertha Pooja’ (holy water offering) ceremony.

Additional Details:

The temple authorities provided ‘annadhanam’ (free food) to devotees throughout the festival.
Various cultural performances were held to keep the festive spirit alive.
Special traffic arrangements were made to manage the large crowds.

A Memorable Event:

The Thirukalyanam of Lord Murugan at Thiruparankundram, held in the divine presence of Goddess Meenakshi, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of devotees, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
