Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president Tirunavukkarasar met Congress president Rahul Gandhi (who is also the prime-ministerial candidate of the party for next year’s Lok Sabha polls) in New Delhi yesterday and apprised him about the prevailing political scenario in the State.
Tirunavukkarasar’s meeting with Rahul Gandhi assumes significance as the ‘rejuvenated’ Rahul is to make an extensive tour of Tamil Nadu after the results of the Karnataka Assembly polls (polling to take place on 12th May) are announced. Rahul and other senior Congress leaders are campaigning extensively in Karnataka in a bid to retain power in Karnataka under Siddaramaiah, the incumbent chief-minister.
Speaking to newsmen after his meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Tirunavukkarasar (an AIADMK veteran of many years before he switched over to the Congress) said that Rahul keenly listened to his briefing about the on-going political developments in the State and about various controversies which have marred the Edapadi K. Palaniswami-led AIADMK regime in the State.
“I have been instructed by our president (Rahul Gandhi) to initiate measures to strengthen the party at the grassroots level in the State. I’m also happy to announce that Rahul Ji would be making an extensive tour of the State some time after the Karnataka Assembly poll results are announced,” Tirunavukkarasar said.
