A woman from Palmetto, Florida stabbed herself three times with a kitchen knife in the stomach because of Donald Trump. The woman had told the police: "I’m tired of living in Trump's country. I'm tired of Trump being president." The woman was found covered in blood by officers who visited the scene. The officer reported that he “observed three stab wounds.” Emergency Medical Services escorted the woman to Blake Medical Center.
The 46-year-old woman has reportedly been involuntarily institutionalized in the past under the Baker Act, the Florida Mental Health Act of 1971. This allows the involuntary admission and examination of individuals who may be in danger of harming themselves or others due to possible mental illness. The process can be carried out by a judge, physicians, mental health professionals, and law enforcement.
In the report, the officer wrote: “I strongly believe there is substantial likelihood that without care or treatment the person will cause serious bodily harm to herself and/or others. I believe that [redacted] is unable to determine for herself whether examination is necessary." The name of the woman has been censored by the police.
