London's Royal Festival Hall underwent a magical transformation into a festive rendition of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory during Warner Bros.' musical, Wonka's world premiere on Tuesday.
Among the attendees was Timothée Chalamet, portraying Wonka, who spent over an hour signing autographs and taking selfies on a vibrant red carpet adorned with colossal cotton candy clouds and jars of candies. Co-stars, including Hugh Grant, Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, and newcomer Calah Lane, also graced the event.
"Our cast is akin to a box of the most exquisite chocolates," highlighted director Paul King, who co-penned the screenplay with his collaborator Simon Farnaby from Paddington.
King praised Chalamet's singing talent, comparing him to Bing Crosby on multiple occasions. "He has quite a range. From big, showstopping moments to pure emotional sequences, he nails them all," King exclaimed in a previous interview, expressing his admiration for Chalamet's versatility.
Wonka serves as a prequel to Roald Dahl's iconic 1964 novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, unraveling the story of the young Wonka's journey to becoming the renowned and eccentric chocolatier depicted by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp over the years. This film follows Tim Burton's rendition, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring Depp, produced 18 years ago, with Warner Bros. obtaining the character rights in 2016.
The majority of Wonka was filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, near London, with additional scenes shot in various UK cities like Oxford and Bath. The UK release is scheduled for December 8, while the US release will follow on December 15.
