Earlier this month, Donald Trump issued an executive order banning TikTok and WeChat in the US. These are Chinese tech companies and the President said that he was banning them in view of the "national security threat" that they pose. ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, has now sued the Trump admin over the ban, saying that it has been "deprived of due process".

“We do not take suing the government lightly; however, we feel we have no choice but to take action to protect our rights, and the rights of our community and employees. Our more than 1,500 employees across the U.S. pour their hearts into building this platform every day,” TikTok has been quoted as saying by New York Times.

Since Trump has used emergency executive powers to ban the app, TikTok has dubbed the move as "unconstitutional and political". It argued that the ban is not based on a "bona fide national emergency".

The executive order is "so vague in its language restricting future transactions with TikTok that it could make receiving a salary from the company a federal crime (sic)," CNN reported a US-based program manager at TikTok as saying.
