The much hyped 'Thunivu' vs 'Varisu' clash that was the number one topic of discussions on entertainment based social and mainstream media finally had its curtain raiser on January 11th. As expected Ajith and Vijay fans stormed theaters screening both the films and the good news is that there very few physical clashes between them.

According to box office estimates that are not confirmed by the production houses 'Thunivu' has collected around Rs 18 crores in Tamil Nadu and Rs 26 crores in India and Rs 30 crores worldwide. The breakup for Indian territories is
Karnataka: Rs 3.50 crores, AP-TG: Rs 2.50 crores, Kerala: Rs 1.50 crores. Rest of India: Rs 0.50 crores Total (India): Rs 26 crores.

On the other hand Vijay's 'Varisu' has collected Rs.17 crores in Tamil Nadu, Rs.26.5 crores in India and Rs.35 crores worldwide. From this information, it is worth noting that although 'Thunivu' has collected Rs. 50 lakhs more than 'Varisu' in India, globally, 'Varisu' has collected Rs. 5 crores more than 'Thunivu'. The breakup for other states is said to be Karnataka - Rs. 3.1Cr , Kerala Rs. ₹4.37 Cr, Andhra and Nizam : Rs. 2Cr. and 0.50 Cr. in rest of India.

Though both 'Varisu' and 'Thunivu' have received mixed reviews from critics the films are drawing in the crowds powered by the charisma of Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar who have fully satisfied their fans.
