With 'Thugs Of Hindostan' flopping like crazy, theatre owners (exhibitors) are in a soup. Reportedly, all the stakeholders put together have run losses to the tune of more than Rs 150 Cr.
Yash Raj Films is understood to have splurged Rs 300 Cr on the making of this Aamir Khan-Amitabh Bachchan adventure. And since theatres have lost at least 50 percent of their investments on this movie, they are reportedly seeking a refund from YRF.
The production house did take up the distribution responsibilities of the movie before its release. Expecting the film to become a big hit, the exhibitors accepted the producers' offer of minimum-guarantee deal. But it has backfired.
The exhibitors are now hoping that the Khan-Bachchan duo will step in to help them out. If the losses are not compensated, some of the theatres may have to shut shop, a report says.
