Sridevi the most iconic Tamil actress who conquered Indian cinema has been laid to rest and it goes without saying that her name will forever be etched in gold in the history of the country's entertainment industry.  For our throwback thursday episode we take a look at some of the films in which Sridevi matched step for step and even overtook the legends of Tamil cinema.

In her very first film 'Moondru Mudichi' a barely teenaged Sridevi took on a matured role of a young girl wronged by a man and takes her revenge on him by becoming his step mother.  In this KB film Kamal appeared in a sweet cameo and Rajini rocked it as the man who goes to the extent of even killing for the lust he harbours for the heroine.  It is however Sridevi who captured the hearts of the people when they come out of the theater for her powerful performance that overshadowed everyone else.

Bharathiraja's trendsetting film '16 Vayadhinile' may have Kamal living the role of Chappaani and Rajini all style and swag as Parattai.  But the film about the coming of age of a sixteen year old who gets hit by infatuation, overcomes the lust of a ruffian and finally finds true love with a man much inferior by her standards.  It was Sridevi who infused life into Mylu and made her immortal and also overtaking her much talented and charismatic costars.

In 'Kavariman' Sivaji played the role of a man who accidently murders his wife and his daughter (Sridevi) harbours hatred towards him.  There are many emotional scenes between the duo throughout the film and Sridevi excelled in the role matching the legendary actor frame to frame.

In 'Sigappu Rojakkal' Kamal Haasan played a psychopath and Sridevi his wife and in every scene she exhibited innocence and pure love which served as a perfect foil.  Similarly Kamal may have recieved the National Award for his role in 'Moondram Pirai' but Sridevi as the amnesiac for sure won the people's award for her sheer brilliance.  The choosy actress accepted 'Puli' her last Tamil film after several decades and appeared in a role as a queen and Thalapathy Vijay conceded that it was a dream come true to work with her.

The above are like just a few drops in her ocean like body of work that numbers close to 300 and she has been top billed in almost all her Hindi films and her last two , 'English Vinglish' and 'Maa' raked in impressive box office receipts on top of critical acclaim.  Sridevi is truly a never before never again actress.
