Today both Vijayakanth and Kamal Haasan are leaders of their respective political outfits and in all probability would be locking horns in the next general or any other election for that matter.  When Kamal called upon his longtime colleague Vijayakanth recently the duo showed great comaraderie and over the years they are known to share a good bonding.

The only time Kamal and Vijayakanth shared the screen was 32 years for  'Manakanakku' directed by R.C. Shakthi.  The film actually was centered around Radha and Ambika with Rajesh playing the man in their lives.  Vijayakanth had a supporting role of a movie cinematographer and in one scene Kamal makes a cameo appearance as his director. The film had music by M.S. Viswanathan and appealed to only a certain section of the audience who preferred serious drama but nevertheless is a quality film.  Kamal and Vijayakanth never acted together again and considering the current situation are also unlikely to do so and 'Manakanakku' will find its place in history for that reason.
