P Vasu, who is known for rendering commercial masala entertainer, has opted for a feel-good youthful entertainer. Making his mark as an a hero is Sakthi, P Vasu's son.
Loaded with double responsibility of launching his son as hero besides coming up with a gripping entertainer, it has been tightrope walk for P Vasu. The director seems to have delivered well.
It's a simple and straightforward story. A boy from a middle-class family falling in love with a rich and an affluent girl. The travails that he encounters to hold her hands forms the crux. But intelligent screenplay and pacy narration by P Vasu does wonders.
It is a dream debut as hero for Sakthi. Impressed one and all as child artiste in Vasu's earlier films, Sakthi has done a good job here. His comfort level before the camera, his body language and the ease in which he performs the action sequences should help his cause. Mumbai import Gauri Munjal does the job entrusted to her well.
With veterans like Raj Kiran and Sukanya chipping in with their best, Thottal Poo Malarum is sure to appease film-buffs.
Ravi (Sakthi), is a happy-go--lucky-youngster, who falls in instant love with Anjali (Gauri Munjal), his college mate. Anjali's mother Mangamma (Sukanya), a rich and an arrogant entrepreneur, tries to play spoilsport in their romance. She arranges for her daughter's wedding with son of a dreaded gangster Varadharaja Vandaiyar (Raj Kiran) in Mumbai. Sakthi sets on a mission to Mumbai. He hides his true identity and manages to gain an entry into Vandiyar's family. Having won the confidence of Vandaiyar's family, Sakthi sets himself on a mission to wedlock Anjali. Does he succeed in his attempt forms the rest.
A beaten-to-bush storyline, it reminds one of movies like Dilwale Dulhaniya Lejayengae and Vasseegara. But Sakthi's screen presence works out well. A confident-looking Sakthi impresses. One of the promising talents to emerge in the recent days, he looks very convincing on screen.
Raj Kiran as Vandaiyar is good. The role of a ruffian sits well on his shoulders. Sukanya,in the shades of negative role, reminds one of Padayappa Nelambari.
The movie has a huge star cast which includes Nasser, Vadivelu, Santhanam, Madan Bob among others.
Another major highlight of the movie is Yuvan's peppy tunes. His youthful musical score forms the backbone. With story, screenplay, dialogues and direction by P Vasu, Thottal Poo Malarum turns out to be a youth festival.
Celebrating the true spirit of romance, the movie is worth a watch.
