'Tholu Bommalata' is gearing up for a grand release on November 22. The family entertainer, starring Dr Rajendra Prasad and Viswant Duddumpudi, is directed by Vishwanath Maganti. Produced by Durga Prasad Maganti, this one has an ensemble cast.
In this interview, catch Viswant talk about his character, what to expect from it and more.
How did this project happen to you?
The director and I have been good friends for a long time. He approached me with the story when I was busy with Nani's 'Jersey'. I liked the story and my character. I didn't take much time to give the nod.
It seems you are playing a soft-spoken guy here. What is your character like in the film?
Firstly, 'Tholu Bommalata' is not a hero-oriented film. All the characters are equally important and that is the beauty in this case. And I have a strong role in it. Secondly, it's a relatable character.
Are you not open to doing male lead roles in movies?
Cinema is bigger than anything and everything. I prefer to play roles that have great prominence in the story. My choices are as per this conviction. This has guided my decision in the case of 'Jersey', 'Tholu Bommalata', and in the case of my upcoming film directed by Chandrasekhar Yeleti.
We have seen family entertainers such as 'Shatamanam Bhavati' in recent years. How is 'Tholu Bommalata' different from other family entertainers?
Family entertainers date a really long way back and we all aware of it. I can't speak much about this film now. But I can say that the story deals with minute disputes between family members and their emotional journey.
Why were you chosen for the role?
We did not think about any calculations and equations while making this film. We mutually admired the story and that is how I ended up doing this film. There is nothing more to it than that.
You have shared screen space with the likes of Dr Rajendra Prasad? How was the experience?
Rajendra Prasad garu is a very jovial person. He breaks the ice with a funny joke as soon as we enter the set. There was an added layer of comfort while working with him.
Tell us about the film's music.
Our music director, Suresh Bobbili, has done an excellent job. His background score for the climax portion is a standout and it adds a lot of depth to the process.
How much have you loved watching the film as an audience?
'Tholu Bommalata' is a true-to-life family entertainer with very real emotions. I could personally connect with the story as the situations in the film closely resemble those of my personal experiences with my family members.
