Ajay Devgan is having a good career run at this time. His directorial venture 'Mayday' is one of the most anticipated films under production these days. It stars himself in the lead role and Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh and others in pivotal roles. Although the title gives an idea about the subject of the film but the actual plotline was kept under wraps. Word 'Mayday' is used as distress call by an aircraft which is in trouble. It is now being reported that the film is based on an actual event.
The film took inspiration from the 2015 Doha-Kochi Jet Airways flight which had a close shave landing due to poor visibility. The flight which was destined to land on Kochi was diverted to Trivendram due to poor visibility but encountered same conditions there as well. After three failed landing attempts and just 250kg fuel left in the reserve, the pilots managed to safely land the plane.
A trade guru shared, "The incident made news at that point but was soon forgotten. Hence, audiences would be in for a surprise when they’ll see MayDay and realize that it’s inspired from a shocking, true incident. Also, the papers only reported about the incident but didn’t follow up with the case. So one hardly knows what happened later on. It’s an exciting idea that Ajay Devgn has chosen for his directorial venture.”
The film went on floors in December 2020 and is slated to release on April 29, 2022.
