After the Sports Minister, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore started the #HumFitTohIndiaFit challenge, the next newest challenge that is surfacing on the internet is the #BeatPlasticPollution. On the occasion of World Environmental Day, the new challenge was started by UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador and Bollywood actress Dia Mirza and is helping the celebrities inspire the nation to use alternative methods.

Recently, Dia had posted a picture in which tons of plastic bottles were seen scattered in an open space and she tweeted -  All those contesting Maharashtra Government’s ban on #singleuseplastics I want to ask you, WHY? How can you NOT see the damage it’s doing? Shouldn’t you be responsible for the waste you generate? We are drowning in plastics. Our health, water, soil, seas, nothing is spared.”  To which the Raazi actress, Alia Bhatt expressed her concern by posting a pic where she captioned it as – “#BeatPlasticPollution by switching to steel or glass bottles today!

Plastic bottles take 450 years or more to decompose, harming us and our environment. I’m now one step closer towards purging plastic from my life. Hope you guys will make the switch too!#LetsCoexist @deespeak”. She further nominated a few of her colleagues, Arjun Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja to take on this eco-friendly challenge forward.

Arjun Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Sonam Kapoor, Aditi Rao Hydari took up the challenge. Apart from the Bollywood celebrities,  Saina Nehwal and Manika Batra too joined the campaign. The theme of World Environment Day 2018 is 'Beat Plastic Pollution’ which highlights the ill-effects of plastic. Let’s also stand united and inspire others to choose a sustainable future.
