Actor Ajith had last acted in Ner Konda Paarvai, which was the official Tamil remake of the 2016 Hindi Superhit movie Pink, and he had played the role played by Amitabh Bachchan in the original. Ner Konda Paarvai which also starred Shraddha Srinath was directed by H Vinoth.

Now Ajith is acting in Valimai which is his 60th movie, directed again by H Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor's Bayview Productions LLP. Hindi actress Huma Qureshi who had acted in Superstar Rajnikanth's Kaala will be seen as the female lead in Valimai.

While it was said that Telugu hero Kartikeya might be acting as the villain in Valimai, the latest rumour making the rounds is that Navdeep might be signed to play the villain. Though there is no official confirmation, it must be noted that Navdeep had acted as Ajith's brother in the 2008 movie Aegan.
