Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president Tirunavukkarasar has likened the Congress Party and the DMK to a pair of ‘husband and wife’.

Thirunavukkarasar, who had long been with the AIADMK before switching his allegiance to Congress in 2009, was speaking to newsmen at Sathyamoorthy Bhawan, the headquarters of the State Unit of the Party, in Chennai when he made the above-cited comment while replying to a specific query on the relationship between the Congress and the DMK.

“The BJP, which rules at the Centre, as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been deeply hurt and shocked by the reverses the party suffered in Rajasthan Assembly and Lok Sabha by-polls,” he said and added that Congress’ path of ascendancy has commenced with the take-over of the party’s presidentship by Rahul Gandhi, who had till now been the party’s vice-president.

“The Prime Minister feels panic about the Congress’ resurgency and about Rahul’s ‘clean’ image,” Tirunavukkarasar said. To another query about the reported ‘thaw’ in the relationship between the Congress and the DMK, he said that it was a false rumour as the Congress and the DMK were ‘in marital bliss’ like a happily-married husband and wife.
