Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol Thirumavalavan has announced that the VCK would be supporting the DMK candidate during the R.K. Nagar by-polls to be held in the city on 21st December.
Advocate Marudhuganesh, who contested the R.K. Nagar by-polls in April this year on behalf of the DMK before it was abandoned at the very last moment, has once again been nominated by the party to contest from the high-profile seat which had elected former Tamil Nadu chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa twice in the past to represent it in the State Legislative Assembly.
After expressing his party’s support to Marudhuganesh, Thiruma said that he decided to support the DMK candidate as he wanted to ensure that the votes of secular parties should not be split. As reported earlier, the Election Commission announced a few days back the decision to hold the much-delayed R.K. Nagar by-polls on 21st December. Counting of votes is to be taken up on 24th December.
Code of conduct for political parties has come into effect with the announcement of the by-poll schedule in R.K. Nagar. DMK general secretary Anbazhagan announced late last week that the party was re-nominating Marudhuganesh to contest from R.K. Nagar. DMK working president Stalin said that the party would seek the support of like-minded parties so as to thwart the ruling AIADMK from winning in R.K. Nagar.
Thiruma expressed confidence that his party’s association with the DMK would continue beyond the upcoming R.K. Nagar by-polls to the local body polls as well.
