Third wave of Covid-19 may hit children: Expert

Eminenent virologist Dr V Ravi on Thursday said that the third wave of coronavirus may hit children the hardest. The first wave was most virulent for old people. The second wave is hitting adults in a big way.

As quoted by ET, the expert said that kids will also be more vulnerable because they are not vaccinated. He suggested that testing them on a regular basis for early detection is the key.

If children indeed get hit by the third wave (which might occur in the last quarter of this year), it will upset the academic calender unless some early measures are taken by all levels of government. Since children are among the most-loved ones in homes, elders will go through a lot of anxiety should the fear of coronavirus spread. This is likely lead to a mental health calamity.

"The third wave is inevitable, considering the high levels at which this virus is circulating," Dr K Vijay Raghavan, the Principle Scientific Advisor said earlier this week.
