SS Rajamouli is back in news. With this film winning the prestigious National Award in the Best Film category, he and producer Shobu Yarlagadda are all set to be inundated with encomiums.

Baahubali has won the National Award in a second category: Special Effects. The VFX work was led by "Makuta VFX and Firefly in Hyderabad, Prasad Studios in Hyderabad and Chennai, Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad, Tau Films in Malaysia, and Dancing Digital Animation and Macrograph in South Korea". The Wikipedia post says, "More than 90 percent of the film had visually enhanced shots and according to the producer, more than 600 VFX artists worked for the film from 18 facilities".

Interestingly, this is the third time that a Rajamouli film has won the National Award in this category. R. Kamal Kannan won one for Magadheera in 2009. Makuta VFX won the Award for Eega in 2012.

Notably, it's the fourth time that a Telugu film has won the National Award in this category, the first one being Anji. Most of the times, it is Tamil cinema which has won an award in this category.
