Sree Vishnu is gearing up for the release of 'Thippara Meesam' on November 8. In this interview, catch him talk about the film, his character in it, what makes it unique, what kind of films he wants to do and more.

What kind of effort went into getting your look right in the movie?

I play a character who is a DJ at a night club. Being a DJ, his get-up is always on his own terms. Since the character is 'hatke' and has got other shades, it serves up the mass appeal as well. As part of this, I grew a beard. I bulked up for this role and raised my weight by 8 kg. That explains why I am looking different in the trailer.

At a time when you are going strong with comedies like 'Brochevarevarura', what made you choose a serious subject like this one?

I don't believe in placing myself under restrictions or limitations. Comedy films have wide appeal but they can't limit an actor. They are not the end of the world. That's why we see not just comedies but several other genres being made. Content-oriented cinema is as important. At times, a film might need both comedy and other elements for it to work commercially.

What kind of comedy track can we expect in the movie?

In my previous film, 'Brochevarevarura', the comedy is situational and is derived from the behaviour of its characters. It had no separate comedy track. Same holds true for 'Thippara Meesam' as well.

What justifies the unusual title?

Men twirl their moustaches during contests or our of pride. In this film, my character does it on different occasions. The theme, however, is that moustache is a responsibility and it's pointless to twirl it for no big reason. You can twirl your moustache the day you do something special and something that satisfies you.

Why has the film got delayed?

My previous release happened in June. We didn't want to go for another release soon after. And then came big-ticket flicks like 'Saaho' and 'Sye Raa'. We didn't want to release during those days.

Tell us about your director Krishna Vijay.

I am happy to have got to work with him repeatedly. My directors have always loved to work with me time and again. That makes me happy. I am a director's actor and I always listen to them.

Tell us about the mother sentiment in 'Thippara Meesam'.

Not just that factor. There are 3-4 unique scenes in the movie which we haven't seen before. This is both realistic and commercial at once. Drama and action are a deadly combination. That's what makes this film appealing to me.

Is it true that you hiked your remuneration after the success of your previous film?

I had committed to four projects before that movie released and so, I didn't demand any hike from their producers after the success of the movie. It's not justified either. If my reach increases after these four movies, I will definitely hike my fee.

What does commerciality mean to you?

It's all about maximum reach. Concept-based movies do well in multiplexes and the US. But if you have to gain a foothold in B and C centres, you have to do commercial movies. 'Thippara Meesam' has got both content and commerciality going for it. It has got elements that can be liked by a larger section of audience. If the director could show me in this manner in this film, he can do it with other heroes as well in future. I look for respect when I make good films. I feel happy when my efforts are recognized by others.

What are your upcoming movies?

Three projects have been finalized. They will be helmed by new directors. Which of these will go on the floors first will be decided in the coming days.
