We have been used to watching advertisements for products that promise fairness in weeks! Then there are "magic remedies" that tell the gullible that a health drink can cause an increase in the height of children. The news is that such advertisements could seen become punishable offences.

The Modi government is planning to introduce a Bill that will ban the advertisements for such products. As per news reports, a Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) (Amendment) Bill, 2020, will soon be introduced. This will increase the number of advertisements banned from 54 to 78.

Those who claim a cure for AIDS/HIV and for premature ageing, etc. could land in jail or be made to pay hefty penalties or both. A ban on advertisements doesn't mean a ban on products, though.
