Vijay Antony awaits the release of 'Indrasena' on Nov 30. In this interview, he talks about the film's subject, what is special about the movie, how he approaches life, the controversy related to the 'GST' song, and more.

Is 'Indrasena' based on real-life incidents? Was it tough to play the dual roles?

'Indrasena' is a created story by our director. This is the first time that I am playing double roles. In 'Yaman', I played a father's role, but he dies and only then does the son enter the screen. In 'Indrasena', it's a simultaneous thing.

With the advanced editing technologies, it's not difficult to play double roles these days. It can be done easily.

What ticks for you as an actor?

Frankly, I am not a good actor. I choose good stories. I just express what I can in my own way. I express anger, romance, etc the way everybody goes through. I find it easy to be myself as an actor. I am a good technician, though.

Why do you seek to produce your own movies often?

When someone else is the producer, I may not be able to communicate what is on my mind. I like to produce my own movies.

It's heard that you want to learn dancing. Tell us about that.

I want to dance differently two years down the line. But I don't want to train in dancing. I will rather join Aerobics and Zuba, which are also healthy.

Do you think you are doing commercial movies?

If the audience like something, it's called a commercial movie. If not, it's not. For a beginner, 'Nakali' was the right film for me. I was not seen romancing a heroine in that movie. 'Dr. Salim' was apt as my second film. I don't segregate movie types.

I have a masala song in 'Indrasena'. It's all an imagination. But as an actor, I know my limitations. I will not cross the limits.

What is the premise of 'Indrasena'?

It's the tale of two brothers. Indrasena was in love with a girl. He becomes sorrowful when he loses her. He turns into a drunkard. His brother, Rudrasena, is a disciplined physical trainer in a school. What Indrasena does when his brother faces a problem is what the film is about.

There is an Indrasena in every responsible family man. We don't realize that our father made many sacrifices for us until we ourselves become one.

Those who loved 'Bicchagadu' will love this movie, too.

Why have you started the practice of showing the first 10 minutes of your movie to the press?

People are often cheated by good teasers. Everybody does that. When I show the first 10 minutes of a movie, we make sure that it raises the curiosity but doesn't reveal anything.

Why did the Censor Board ask you to replace the word 'GST' with 'EMI' in a duet?

It's very difficult to run a country. Just to run your family, we run from pillar to post. GST has just been introduced in the country. Its effects can be judged only in the long run. We can't compare the situation in India with that in Singapore so soon. Our song didn't make fun of GST. But when the Censor Board felt that it's improper, we readily agreed to remove it.

How do you lead your life?

I don't have any big expectations. Big expectations are a huge burden. I just am here to accomplish my passion. I want to be genuine, if not I won't be able to face the world.

I am not living my life as a hero. I am just an audience. That's who I choose my stories.

How are you able to wear multiple hats?

I always strive to be sincere to my product. When someone is putting money on me, I shouldn't spoil the project. Nowadays I am also editing my own movies. Since my hands are full, I am not accepting offers to compose the music for others' movies.

We hear that you never learnt music.

Yes. I didn't learn music at all. But I used to play randomly before I entered films. Only after coming to Chennai did I come to know that I know nothing about music. People in Chennai are so talented in Carnatic, ghazals, etc. They can play Piano, etc so well.

When are you doing a straight Telugu movie?

I am looking for good scripts. My next Tamil film is titled 'Kali'. Afterwards will happen 'Roshagadu' in Telugu and its Tamil title is different.

Isn't the political situation in Tamil Nadu too troubled?

Political fights have always been there. Despite all the difficulties, our state is functioning properly.
