Amid some speculative reports that malcontents are resorting to profiteering over the sale of Covid testing kits, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday demanded that Narendra Modi act swiftly against the corrupt. Plugging a news report, the parliamentarian pooh-poohed the "scam".
"That any human being would try & profiteer from the immeasurable suffering of millions of his brothers & sisters, is beyond belief & comprehension. This scam is an insult to every Indian. I urge the PM to act swiftly to bring the corrupt to justice," Rahul tweeted out.
Later on, the party's spokesperson Randeep Surjewala alleged that some people were supplying test kits at Rs 600 to the government while they bought them for Rs 225.
As per some, the allegation of a scam doesn't wash. "Guess how much has ICMR paid for these kits till now? ZERO rupees! The kits were not up to the quality standards and ICMR has not made any payment. The same can be attested from the court judgement. So essentially, the Government of India has not lost even a single rupee," Varun Jhaveri, a bureaucrat, noted.
