On Sunday morning around 6.30 am, serial actor Selvarathnam was murdered by four men right in front of his house in MGR Nagar in Chennai.  Police rushed to the spot and retrieved the body and sent it to the postmortem.  It was also found that the murderers had destroyed a CCTV camera in the area.

Selvarathnam aged 45 was acting as the main villain in the serial 'Thenmozhi BA' starring Jacqueline which is telecasting currently.  He was also said to be involved in building contracting and real estate and it was believed that the murder could have been the result of a business enmity.

In the first level investigation by the police, it was found that Selvarathnam a Sri Lankan Tamil had sent his wife and three children to the refugee camp in Virudhunagar during the coronavirus pandemic.  He was said to be in an illicit relationship with a friend Vijayakumar's wife Diana in Virudhunagar refugee camp and had continued it even after repeated warnings.

Vijayakumar angered by his wife Diana's affair reportedly came with his cohorts from Virudhunagar and hacked Selvarathnam to death.
